musicals ever written - the perfect escape from life's troubles. Starring Norm

 THE
GLASS MENAGERIE Tennessee Williams' Classic Drama
November 10 - December 10, 2006 This
autobiographical play about his mother and sister was Tennessee Williams' first
great popular success and launched his brilliant and controversial career. Set
in St. Louis during the depression era of the 1930s, it is the poignant drama
of a family's gradual disintegration, under pressure both from outside and within.
Tennessee Williams recalled his sister's small glass menagerie as "all the
softest emotions that belong to the recollection of things past. They stood for
all the small and tender things that relieve the austere pattern of life and make
it endurable to the sensitive.
 THE
FOURTH WALL A Buffalo Premiere by Buffalo's Own A. R.
Gurney January 5 - February 4, 2007
In this love letter
to the theatre, Mr. Gurney uses the stage to explore, quite comically, our place
in the world today. Set in the living room of a contemporary, upper-class, Buffalo,
New York couple, the author sharpens his wit on such topics as cola wars, politics,
and even the very audiences who attend plays. "…some damn clever writing…Constructed
to illuminate the nature of the dramatic form while raising questions about the
current state of the theatre in America…the evening is debonair, thought-provoking,
and funny." - The New Yorker.
 ENCHANTED
APRIL A Buffalo Premiere by Matthew Barber Based on
the Novel by Elizabeth von Arnim March 2 - April 1, 2007 When
two frustrated London housewives decide to rent a villa in Italy for a holiday
away from their bleak marriages, they recruit two very different English women
to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean
sunshine, all four bloom again—rediscovering themselves in ways that they
- and we - could never have expected. "ENCHANTED APRIL is as good as they
come: a lush, thoroughly refreshing theatrical holiday. Escape has seldom seemed
so sweet. A magical triumph." - LA Times.
 THE
IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST The Definitive Oscar Wilde
Comedy April 27 - May 27, 2007
Oscar Wilde created the most delicious comedy of manners, morals and ethics of
the manor-born with EARNEST. His piercingly sharp dialogue, in which the Victorian
era characters illuminate the silliness of the upper class delights as much now
as when it was first written. The Kavinoky Theatre promises a delightful and light-hearted
romp through the parlors and parlance of English society filled with dazzling
humor and wit.
 The
Kavinoky Company has produced over 120 shows in the last 25 years and has earned
a reputation for consistently high-quality productions, a solid subscriber base
of 2,500 and has received more awards than any other theatre in Buffalo. The
Kavinoky has had a seminal influence on the growth of live theatre in Buffalo.
Most of the leading area actors had their start at The Kavinoky, as did many of
the Artistic Directors. |
