The
Real Dream Cabaret, a Buffalo, New York - based satirical improvisational free-for-all,
is the product of the collective imaginations of writer/performers Brian Milbrand,
Jeannine Giffear, Johnny Rocket, Kitty Jung, Ron Ehmke, Taunee Grant, John Carocci,
and Theresa Baker, along with visual artist/designer Anya Lownie and "Stage Master"
Aimee Goldberg (plus far-flung founding member Brian Lampkin and New York bureau
chief Anna Chiaretta). Our
work provides audiences with a skeptical, sometimes absurdist approach to current
media, social culture, gender issues, politics, and art. As an admission fee,
we ask audience members to pay an hour's worth of their own current wage. In return,
they get funny stuff, serious stuff, music, puppets, video, dance, and things
too weird to classify. A bargain, you say? We call it a Real Dream. A
dream team of collaborators working in a dreamy environment. An experiment in
art and commerce. A work in progress. A chance to strike while the iron is hot.
A chance for artists and performers to hone their skills through experimentation,
repetition, and refinement - AND get paid for doing so. An hommage to and extension
of the great eras of cabaret past, from Dada to burlesque to Vegas to the West
Village to the East Village and beyond. An oxymoron. A synthesis of sweet dream
and bitter reality. A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your
pants. |
