Performing Arts Center is a spectacularly restored 1926 opera house. Its Classic
styling boasts an opulent Baroque interior design by Tiffany studios with walls
of Italian marble, crystal chandeliers from Czechoslovakia, lush red carpeting,
furnishings from Chicago's Marshall Field,
The building was designed by Cornelius and George Rapp, who were among the most
important and influential American theatre architects of the period. Considered
one of the finest examples of the great movie palaces of the era, it was commissioned
by Buffalo entertainment pioneer Michael Shea to be the flagship of his theatre
chain. In
addition to Broadway shows, Shea's offers opera, dance, pop music, children's
programming and concerts at the fully restored Mighty Wurlitzer organ. Classic
films, only fully appreciated on a big screen, are also shown at the center. National
Historic Register.

Mia! October 3 - 8, 2006
Back by popular demand - Mamma Mia!
was the most requested show in recent surveys by Shea's patrons. Benny Andersson
and Björn Ulvaeus' Mamma Mia!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of
ABBA, returns to Shea's after a sold-out engagement in June 2004. Inspired by
the storytelling magic of ABBA's songs, writer Catherine Johnson's sunny, funny
tale of family and friendship unfolds on a tiny Greek island. One the eve of her
wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three
men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
Songs including "Dancing Queen"; "The Winner Takes All"; and
"Take A Chance on Me" are all featured in this feel-good musical.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas November 7-19, 2006
Based
on the famous Dr. Seuss story that has enchanted multiple generations of children
and adults for over four decades, will now be a brand new theatrical production
that will open in Buffalo before going to Broadway! This show will be orchestrated
on the Shea's stage including rehearsals, technical requirements and building

The Nutcrackers brings fantasy to life before your very eyes - a Christmas tree
that grows 20 feet, a roaring dragon, Mother Ginger and her feisty brood and Herr
Drosselmeyer's magic sack of gifts that has a life all its own. BalletMet's The
Nutcracker captures all the wonder and childlike joy of the holiday season with
beautiful dancing, opulent scenery, and touches of humor that make the ballet

Winner of the 1996 Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best
Musical and the 1996 Pulitzer Prize Award for Drama. The theatrical experience
that changed Broadway forever and has become a major motion picture is now in
its 10th Season of Love. Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is about
being young and learning to survive, falling in love, finding your voice and living
for today. The show received its world premiere off-Broadway at New York Theatre
Workshop on February 13, 1996 to ecstatic reviews, and it rapidly became a sold-out
hit. The show transferred to Broadway on April 29, 1996 where it continues to

Molly Ringwald takes center stage as Charity Hope Valentine, who's
a true original, eternal optimist...and the unluckiest romantic in New York City.
Sweet Charity's tuneful score features such hits as "Hey Big Spender,"

Could See Me Now." The show, based on the hilarious book by none other than
Neil Simon, features knockout choreography by Wayne Cilento who won a Tony Award

The popular celebration of Irish music, song and dance focusing on the evolution
of Irish dance, as well as its similarities with, and influences on, other cultures.
Riverdance had its world premiere at the Point Theatre, Dublin in February 1995,
where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim. Riverdance - The Album has sold
over two million CDs worldwide and is certified Platinum in the U.S. Composer
